Clip to ScrapBook
Hey, you have the same kid I had last year.

In our school the parents transferred the child to another teacher and had the same exact problems. Her son liked to read. He had a lot of trivia type of knowledge but not any
ability to apply knowledge. He had no discipline to complete work, he just liked to read. We tried to get his parents to issue consequences for his behavior, but they could not stick to their behavior plan. Without consequences, students just don't feel an urgency to complete work. Especially if you have parents that say that the child is brilliant and the work is "unimportant" or
beneath the child's abilities.

I always offer extension activities as a choice after students have completed their task to a high degree of proficiency. Then I offer a choice if students would like to work on an extention. I'm usually able to report to these "gifted" parents that their child was offered extention activities but did not choose to do the extentions.

Also, bring samples work from the child.
