Considering the weather, choose a day when you are fairly sure you will need the heater. Schedule a parent involvement activity during the part of the day when the smell is typically at its worst. Before that day take all of the potporri, air freshener, etc. out of your room. (You are not responsible for providing that and you should not have to spend your own money on it.) Make sure the activity lasts long enough for the parents to really get an idea of how bad it is. When they bring it up, explain that you have asked to have it looked at and that maintance came but will not be able to do anything at this time. Beyond this, refer questions to the principal. In fact, you might wish to ask the principal to participate in the activity in some way.
