slow pokes
By have one, too

Clip to ScrapBook
I have one of those slow kids, too & when I met his mom at conferences the old adage about apples not falling far from the tree really rang true, as it seemed to take her forever to walk across the room & sit down. I told
her about the problem & said that any materials that were not completed in the alloted class time would be sent home to be completed and returned the next day. At the rate he's going, he's going to have a lot of homework each night.
May I suggest a timer for each phase of a project & when he gets it done within the timer limit, he gets a sticker. I've seen this work with some kids.
Also, the concept of getting to go to stations or centers only after completing their work helps motivate some of them. My students isn't into stickers, so that plan didn't work well. His not getting to go to stations is beginning to have some affect; he's complaining about never getting to "play" & I keep telling him to get his work done & he will.
