we did this, but

Clip to ScrapBook
We were doing the same thing for 6 years. We went to Trophies this year. I myself was happy without the basal, but....After many meetings with the principal and school improvement team it was determined that for the good
of ALL students we needed a guide. I say we, but what I mean are most teachers wanted and needed a guide. YOu have a handful of teachers who are willing to put in the work it takes to teach without basals and textbooks. They thrive on making sure students are taught grade level expectations and standards in an engaging, "real" language way. However, there are many who don't want to
do the work/planning that goes along with teaching in an engaging way. So, the students in their classes are loosing out.

I do use the basal and also love the way all language in integrated into the reading program, but I do it my way. For those others, they have a step-by-step guide to make sure their students don't miss out on anything because they have a less than passionate teacher.
