guided reading
By Bonnie gr 2

Clip to ScrapBook
We are being pushed into guided reading and literacy centers. Most of the teachers are not comfortable with it. I can do grouping but not necessarily guided reading. I still have a literature based basal with grammar and
spelling, too. Not enough time for everything so my target right now is groups once a week.

I've seen a few programs come and go over the years. My feeling is that you should take bits and pieces from each and find something that works for your kids and that you feel comfortable doing. If you aren't comfortable, you can't sell it to the kids. And how you approach things will vary

from year to year, depending on your kids and their needs. Unfortunately, many of those in charge haven't been in the classroom in years to understand reality.

With all of the demands, it's a shame that the fun things we used to do are disappearing. The joy of being a child is being pushed out of the way in the name of No Child Left Behind.
