Structure
By JMO

Clip to ScrapBook
Make sure the students are provided with structure. They should always web the information prior to writing. I start with webbing and webbing. Then I move on to changing a web into sentences. Then we put it into paragraph.
We practice paragraph writing making sure that students understand to indent and where to bring the rest of the lines. We also focus on one part of grammar. One week it may be predicate and subject. We bring this into our writing every sentence must have a predicate and subject. The next week it may be the four types of sentences. Then the students must find ways to include the
four types of sentences with the correct punctuation and subjects and predicates. The next week it might be adding sight words to it. Then pronouns. Spend time focusing on one thing before adding the next. In your shoes I would focus on subject/predicate simple sentences. Do not add conjunctions or combining sentences until closer to test time. If you do not understand then you need to look things up and learn them. I understand not remembering but spend some time researching and reading up on it.
