reading nights By chris

I'm on sick leave for a week but I hope I'll still be able to explain clearly what we've done in our school. We'll be preparing soon for our next reading night too . Here are a few stations we did: - readers' theater ( the 1st graders wrote the texts) - animal puzzles: non-fiction texts about animals cut in pieces - they had to put the correct pieces together - draw a poem: they had to choose a poem and draw a picture - they loved it! - litterature board game: I just can't remember the name of this game right now Anyway, you draw a big track with 63 squares- people throw the dice, move on |
| the track and have to answer a question, mime , sing a song etc... related to a famous character, book, title ... Am I clear? - for little ones: Arts and craft: someone would read a famous story then kids get to make some kind of headband ( bunny ears, crown etc ) or a small accessory and put on make-up to look like a character in the book - this year, we're trying to get a 'voice' to read stories . One of our parents is a famous actor but unfortunately this family moved... - Non-fiction: one of our teachers' classroom is full of research posters written by his 4th graders. So one of the station is a quiz - all the answers are on the posters - a big hit for us too was the Authors' cornerOur rules are each teacher is responsible for at least one station and his students must be involved. I'll do the board game and the poems with my 4/5th graders. We serve hot chocolate at the end of the evening and people help with cleaning up at the same time. BTW, I'm looking for more funny poems. Any ideas where I could find some? Hope this help
