I don't give any points whatsoever for late assignments unless there is a good excuse from the parent through e-mail, letter or phone call. If a relative died or the student was sick the night before but was feeling much| better in the morning, etc. Even though they don't get any points for late work, they still have to turn it in before they can take the test. Their is a time period in which the assigments and the test must be completed or the test also turns into a 0. That really gets the students turning in their work because they know that a 0 on one or more assignments and a test, can really affect their |
| grade drastically. If sports seem to be the problem, then I think you need to get some back-up from the administration. Sports are known as extra-curricular activities. They need to handle the curricular before they can handle the extra-curricular. Extra curriculars are a priveledge and those students not doing well with school shouldn't be allowed to participate in something extra. I would see if the administration could send out a letter to parents or something. Also, you don't have to give credit to those students who have sports even though their parents write notes.
