    The teacher I worked with last year laminated postcards of paintings, poems, drawings, etc. she put these in a basket and had students draw the picture and write a journal entry about the picture. They students liked this and kept them busy using their own creative thoughts. She also had students so letters home journal. THese writing pieces were not graded by grammar but more on thought. She did not read all of them of course but rather had students pair up and discuss each other journal entries based on criteria, such as using detail on week to writing a good paragraph or setting up a letter properly. Students wrote comments to each other. She also had qotes from books and famous people and had students draw their own cards that were also laminated. If a student wrote a poem she would also laminate these.
