exactly how you feel! I also feel I constantly have to justify what and teach and why, and always have proof that I am teaching what I say I am, and that grades are totally standard based and not reflective of a child's development or efforts. It is very frustrating to feel we aren't able to tell anyone of our concerns regarding all of the assessments for fear of retaliation (like being fired, and getting replaced by someone who is new to the profession or the school and hasn't realized just how standards-based the school is over developmental and instructionally based). I agree that if parents know how much testing their kids went through over how much time is spent actually learning, they WOULD throw a fit. I don't think my school is as bad as yours, thankfully, but I do know what you're going through.
