Learning Centers

I've subbed in what they call "learning centers" in CT and it's not a hard day at all. There's sometimes more than one teacher in there and at least one or two aides who may leave to do inclusion. Kids come in thru-out the
day from various classes. You may have a group of 5 kids from grade four. On the other side of the room there may be a group of 3 stu from grade two working with someone else. I think these kids generally need more individualized instruction, reinforcements and encouragement. They may also have attention/behavior issues, but not always. You only have them for a short time (45 min - 1hr

or so), then you'll get another group. The learning center teacher may have a bin for their work and they work out of that or they will bring what they're working on from class. It's good to get to know these kids because when you sub in the regular ed classrooms you will meet them again and be ahead of the game because they will know you. (and you'll know them!) That small group interaction goes a long way and they remember you!
