Set the timer!
By AmberM

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a student similar to the child you describe, only there was another student who wanted to race with him. Their papers were horrible. Then I began to set a timer for the amount of time I thought was reasonable for the upper average to be done by. I told the class that no one could turn in their paper before the timer rang and if they did finish before that time they were to check over their work. They were not allowed to do anything else but concentrate on that paper. This stopped the race game to be first in the basket.
I also started the 100% Club. When ever they made a 100% on a paper they got to put their name in a book. They thought it was a big deal. I did not do traets for the most 100's but my partner teacher did.
Good Luck!
