Hello,
I see two separate issues in your post. One is what to do about the child of a TA on your level who is not doing well - and seems to have a number of behavior issues. I think that referring her for special
services is the best thing to do and will work out well for you. If this is handled like it is in our district, there will be a team to evaluate the problem and suggest possible solutions. That way, it is not just you voicing concerns. Perhaps when faced with a group of people the mother will begin to accept some of the realities about her child.
The other issue seems to be
your relationship with your team and I really don't think the whole group of teachers would be so easily influenced by this one TA's opinion. Perhaps they are trying to help you see what is expected of you from the administrators of your school and help you avoid criticism from them. If you really believe that the principal does not expect all of you to be at the same place in your teaching, you need to meet with the principal and ask. Being confident in yourself and your teaching is great, but you need to realize that experience is valuable too. Perhaps your team is gently trying to share some of theirs.
