Thanksgiving Feast
By Judy

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Kim,
I do a feast each year with my preschoolers and we make all the food ourselves. We make it and freeze it and then we invite our parent(s) to join us on the last day before Thanksgiving to eat it with us. We try
to use food that the Indians and the pilgrims ate. Our menu this year is apple cake, pumpkin pie, cornbread (with the story of Squanto) popcorn, cranberry jello and apple cider. Popcorn was brought to the first feast for the Pilgrim children to see. They had never seen popcorn and cranberries were used bye the Indians for medicine and dye but the Pilgrims ate them because they were soooo
hungry. We limit our costumes to headresses (which if you research them can tell a story about the person) and bear claw necklaces from our bear hunt. This makes the feast seem more authentic and you can include some Native American history too. It is very important that you make it clear that today, the Native Americans are just like you and I and when we use the term Indians were are talking abou tthem a long time ago. Have fun! My children NEVER forget this feast. Even when they get to Middle School they will mention the feast to me.
