Another good rule to go by is not to wear clothing with large labels on them (ie: shirts with a designer logo pasted on the front). Stick with basics. As well, a nice denim shirt goes a long way. I wear a fitted denim jacket or shirt with dress pants, khakis, skirts, etc. It is comfortable and does not violate many dress codes. STAY AWAY FROM LOWRISE!!!!! Luckily waistlines are starting to rise so cool pants with higher waists are not impossible to find anymore. If there is a doubt don't wear them. When shopping for pants I always bend down and check to see if my underwear is visible, as well squat down and check. If at anytime underwear is visible, put them back on the rack. Wear shirts that go over the waistband as well. Belts also save yourself from embarrassment. No cleavage, even a little. Enough said. I know that this was long, but I know what you are going through and I feel your pain (I am a hoodie, lowrise jeans girl). It is possible to look professional and not lose your sense of self and youth (which is how I felt when I started my teacher training). Just throw a little of your personal style into your professional attire and you should be fine! Err on the side of caution, its hard enough looking the same age as your students. Do not try to dress like them. Thats what weekends are for! Good luck shopping!
