I know how that can be
By Kelly

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a little girl a couple of years ago who lost both her brother (footbal injury leading to blood clot) AND mother (cancer--had been sick for several years) within the same school year (horrible, huh?!)
I would conference with her when she was feeling sad...and initially, I let her go up in front of te class and explain what had happened. She was a very verbal girl and this was the way she wanted to handle it. She liked the attention she received from this.
She really handled it well...surprisingly. She had lots of other emotional issues (she truly was ED BEFORE any of this other stuff happened)...but I was quite surprised how well she handled both of the deaths. It's amazing how resiliant they are at that age (3rd grade).
