As of today, my class will now be split amongst the three other third grade teachers and I am to become, in essence, a teacher's aide to the other math and science teacher in the third grade. This is what my principal told me as I was leaving school today because in the past two days I have had 10 of my students (two of which have been twice) referred to the office for fighting. The principal told me that I needed to gain ownership of MY problem and so she is going to take my class away from me. I have a 97-day clause in my contract where I can be fired or can quit within the first 97 school days and there are no reprecussions for either party. I have decided that since my life at home has been effected by this (I have a four year old and my husband that I rarely spend time with and when I do I am snapping at my daughter) and my mental and physical health are in jeopardy if I stay, that I will invoke that clause and tomorrow will be my last day at this school. I have never regreted taking any job before in my life but this one I do. What is sad is that the other new teachers in the building are planning on leaving as well. Maybe this will be a wake up call for all the individuals involved and that they will think about those children and not anything else. I will be finding another job (and at this point I dont care what it is as long as I am away from that school) in a neighboring county. I appreciate all of your support and comments.
