I have a basket of books on each table which I change frequently. My Kindergarteners look at books until I call their name. They put their folders in their backpacks -- get coats -- come back into room to line up and stand in line quietly until I dismiss them. Looking at books seems to calm them down. Sometimes I have them sit quietly at their tables with their heads down and play classic music in the background. This seems to do the trick for my class. Good luck!
