Hitter By Michelle

I got some great advice from Rob on a previous post I made titled "The Hitter" if you scroll down you can read his idea for a discipline plan. It took a lot of patience and a long road to get where we are at today but we| managed to get there. I'm not sure what grade you teach so things may not be able to work the same for you. This boy stayed my line leader everyday. No matter where we went he knew, and the class, that he was my leader and no one else could get in front of him. It was so bad that for a few weeks no none was allowed to be within arms reach of him. So our line would always be several |
| steps behind us. I would always let him know how sad I was that the other boys and girls didn't want to play with him or be near him because he was always hitting them. After several weeks of his "isolation" I think he realized how lonely he was. He didn't get recess or snack because of his actions daily. He didn't have any friends and I didn't baby him either. He was always alone and sad. He finally stopped hitting but continued to touch people on the shoulder, arm, etc. When the hitting stopped his classmates began to talk to him and play with him. He started to earn his priviledges and he took off from there. I hope some on these ideas might help you. If you just need daily encouragement, feel free to email me. I know how frustrating and depressing it can be to deal with this everyday.
