We play spelling Tic-Tac-Toe as a review of all of the new words we learned or discussed during the week. First, the class gets divided into two teams (each team chooses to be X or O). Next, I give both teams the same word to spell. The students have to write the word on a piece of paper and raise a hand when they believe the word is spelled correctly (I give each student on the team a turn...usually clockwise so the game doesn't get out of hand). The student must then say how many letters are in the word. If they have the correct number of letters, they can spell it. If not, both teams try again until someone spells the word correctly. Once a team spells the word correctly, they get to come up to the Tic-Tac-Toe board and put on an x- or O. First team to get Tic-Tac-Toe wins the round. We usually play this on chart paper so we can keep track of hpw many rounds we have played.
