Some suggestions:

-Interview a faculty/staff member for every edition.

-Classroom Spotlights-Each reporter picks a classroom to visit and visits with them before every edition for a period of time (20-30 minutes) they
should get prior permission from the teacher and also see if they can come on a day and time where they will be something interesting (i.e. a review game, a group activity, skits, etc.) The reporters could also ask questions of the teacher and students about other things the class has been doing that highlights their school experience since the last newspaper edition.

-Free Write-reporters

and students not on the newspaper may submit writing that they have done (either for fun or for class) that will be published in the newspaper.

-Birthdays-A list of student's (and teacher's) birthdays that take place from the time that edition is published until the next one is published.

Current events-From within the school, community, state, national, and international.

Polls-Each month focus a poll where you poll the school on a question.

Jokes-A section for school appropriate jokes.

Crossword puzzle-You can do a few and group grades (i.e. K-1 gets one puzzle, etc.)
