I don't have a detailed plan but I have used the book When I was young in the mountains by Cynthia Rylant. I then have the kids write a memoir about growing up in their town. I've also drawn a map of my yard when I was growing up on the overhead and discussed the memories I had of playing in my yard when I was kid. I then have the kids draw a picture of their own yards and use it to write a memoir. I've also had them pick a holiday and write a memoir about their memories of how their family celebrates that holiday. I read books for this too but I can't think of them right now...one is a birthday book and one is Christmas.
