Toys in school By Fifth Grade Teacher
|
| I send home the customary letter at the beginning of the school year, in this letter I tell parents that if their child brings a toy to school, or school function, I am not responsible for it. Toys are forbidden in our handbook therefore if they bring one to school they do so at their own risk. I also add that should I catch a student with a toy, no matter how big or small, I will give the student the opportunity to place it back in their backpack. However, if I see the toy again it will be mine until the last day of school or until their mom/dad can come up to school during my time and retrive it. So far I have taken many toys away and returned them the last day of school and I have only had one parent come up and retrieve a toy, it so happened it was a cousins toy and should not have been brought to school, otherwise the parent would not have come up and gotten it.
