Show and tell and teacher responsibility
By Laura

Clip to ScrapBook
When I start show and tell I do tell parents that I am not responsible for any item that comes in. Parents have a fair warning, if they feel it is important then I suggest they bring it in for show and tell and bring it
back home when it is over.
As for items that are brought in for show and tell or at any other time. If I confiscate it the item is not theirs any longer. The parents have the responsibility to know what their child is bringing to school. If it is taken it is not usually given back. No parent has ever come to me and said I want it back (most of the time it gets brought home and then
misplaced).
Where do the rest of you get it that an item taken from a child who was not responsible needs to be returned? How are we ever going to teach responsibility and respect for rules? Parents who ask us to be responsible need to be responsible in knowing what their child is bringing to school. I understand that children sneek things out of the house but then it is the child's fault for loosing it in the first place. Parents cannot be the scapegoats for their children. That is a bad cycle to get in.
