NEGATIVITY By ELLYN

Yes, I was negative in a couple posts. I was shocked to see teachers talking so negatively about parents, saying their response to a parent who wants to visit their class was to suggest that the teacher be allowed to come| into the parent's home and judge their parenting skills. I felt that was a ludicrous comment that suggests that parents being interested in their children's education were out of line. On one hand, we complain that parents aren't involved enough, but on the other hand, we complain that they want to visit their children's classes. I was also shocked that a conversation about parents | | stereotying and judging teachers turned into a conversation that negatively stereotyped parents as people who sit at the pool for no other reason than to badmouth teachers. I have always felt teaching was our frustrations...sometimes that helps. BUT, when we encourage each other to look down our noses at parents, I think we've moved from helpfully sharing information teacher-to-teacher to being petty. And, I stated my opinion. I'm sorry if I offended anybody by stating my shock at seeing this kind of conversation between teachers. I hold teachers in higher esteem than to expect to hear them speaking like this. As for the responses to my opinions, people are certainly welcome to comment, but I can't believe TEACHERS resort to name calling and childish comments like this: "You know what, ELLYN, you are a negative and #####y person. If the only thing you can do is be hostile and rude, why are you posting on this board? Everytime I read one of your posts, you are rude. I'm glad I don't work with you, because you seem like a giant drag to me." This is NOT what this board is about, and I have no desire to continue this conversation. Again, I apologize if my comments were offensive.
