read alouds
By Janet

Clip to ScrapBook
I use my read alouds as a way to model the reading comprehension strategies I use when I read. I think outloud, stop and ask myself questions, predict what might happen, even jot down interesting facts or confusions that I have. I believe good readers do this automatically but struggling readers need to hear and see the thought process. It also allows students to hear vocabulary and language struture that is possibly above their own reading level. I use a variety of genre. There is a wealth of wonderful literature so I don't limit myself to just seasonal or what I like. Its a great opportuntity to stretch me too!
