Hi there
Here is how I do morning meeting. We meet, do a greeting (refer to www.responsiveclassroom.org for ideas on different greetings), a whipshare (asking the kids to think about a quick answer to a quick question
... favorites, yes/no, etc.) OR personal shares (talking shares, not show and tells, and only 2 or 3 but you really need to model personal shares before allowing the kids to do it b/c after the share the kids should let the class know they are ready for questions or comments, of which you should only allow for a certain amount), morning message, and then a quick activity or movement activity.
At first it might take about 25-30 minutes, but as your class becomes accustomed to morning meeting, it can go as quickly as 15 minutes.

Proofreading journals are different from writing journals. I write one sentence per day with simple errors, such as grammatical, mechanical, or spelling, photocopy it, and cut to size. The kids are responsible for taking one, completing it, and gluesticking it into their books before showing it to me.

Any other questions ... let me know and I am happy to help you out!
