Clip to ScrapBook
During the month of October we study biographies of famous Americans. Students choose an American to research. They make a poster with a timeline, a hand drawn portrait, a character web that describes the most significant character traits of this American, and anything else they think is important. They also write a speech in the first person that tells about this persons life and accomplishments. On the day the younger kids get to dress up for Halloween, our students dress as their famous American. Family members and other classes are invited to attend. Students pose as statues. When a dime is dropped in the cup in front of them they "come to life" and perform the speech they have prepared. Lots of work, lots of fun, and lots of learning.
