Taxpayer Argument
By Grade 4 Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
We have parents observe, and usually they are quite complimentary and express appreciation for the job we do. However, the "they should be able to observe because they are taxpayers" is a bit weak in my opinion. I, too,
am a taxpayer. I don't sit in on principals' meetings or ask the Governor if I can come observe him since he's being "paid by me." If the parent's child is ever picked up by law enforcement, the parent will not have the option of being able to observe every aspect of the treatment he/she gets. And in the private sector, services that they pay for can't always be observed (major surgery,
for example). If there is a reason that will benefit the child's academic performance, I say go for it. As a general rule, I think it can be very counterproductive.
