I completely understand what you're going through. I also have been able to leave my class for a few minutes and come back to find that they had no idea I was even out of the room. However, I do know that I could not have done that at the beginning of the year. This year's class that I'm with, I would not even think of leaving, I can hardly turn my back to write on the chalkboard. I don't think you're doing wrong, I think that they are just being kids. I think you did the right thing with those four, hopefully they learned their lesson, but stop and think of what you're expecting these kids to do. They are not perfect, they're kids. Good luck with them!
