hi_ I give out all homework before lunch ( as the subject is taught) along with any notices etc... the students put these in their Home/School folders and leave them on their desks when we go to lunch. When we come back, they pack these into their backpacks while they are putting away their lunch boxes and getting coats for recess etc...this uses the time they are already moving about for that purpose and most importantly, leaves the last fifteen minutes of the day for a peaceful read aloud at the rug. Everyone ( including me!) has a nice end to the day. I have also found that this helps if a child is being dismissed early, that I don't have to stop to get their bag packed etc... Maybe some of this willo work for you. Good luck!
