Something I Do...
By Miranda

Clip to ScrapBook
I was having the same problem at the beginning of the year. In fact, the kids were having such a terrible time getting packed up that we were about 5-10 minutes late getting out to the parking lot every day.

I have a
very competitive class this year and so I decided to set a timer. The first day, I set it for 10 minutes and told the students that they were responsible for packing up their own items and picking up their area before the timer went off. The catch was that the entire class had to be in their seats, completely packed up (mailbox emptied, homework folder signed, bookbag packed, and desk
area cleaned), and voices off by the time the timer went off.

We are now down to 4 minutes and 30 seconds and the I'm able to give last-minute announcements and say afternoon prayer (I work in a parochial school) without pulling teeth!

My bonus for the class when they beat the clock - two extra minutes of recess. That's it!
