Clip to ScrapBook
I used to get all worked up about goals for Book-It, but try to make it fun now. I spend enough time working on reading throughout the day that I finally decided my main goal for Book-It would be the pleasure of the book.
The first week of the month they choose a chapter book and I must OK it, making sure it is not too easy or too difficult. I record their choice in my gradebook. They have a list of projects that stays in a sleeve in their planner: mobile, brown bag report, folded-paper person, poster, collage, t-shirt, commercial advertisement, comic strip, diorama, dress in character, etc. I give them
a rubric by which the project will be judged, and they present it on one of the last days of the month. I send a reminder to parents the last week before it is due. It counts as a test grade.
