stay-at-home moms By mlg

One of the most important and unappreciated jobs that a person can do is to be a parent. The hours are 24/7, the pay stinks, and the burdens are never-ending. I am not implying that every mom who has the ability and resources| to be at home full-time to raise her children does so with equal success. As a teacher currently in an inner-city school, I see the results everyday for kids who NEVER have someone at home to meet their needs, whether it's making sure they have a good breakfast before coming to school, wearing a jacket now that the weather is getting cooler, being available to pick them up or keep | | them home when they are too sick to be in school, reading them a story and tucking them in at night. These are things that many families take for granted, but are a luxury for many of my students. While it is certainly true that many working parents can and do meet these needs for their kids, in many families the stresses that come with trying to keep too many balls in the air inevitably result in something getting dropped. Unfortunately, that often is the kids' time to just be kids.I am in no way implying that stay-at-home moms provide a better life for their kids than working parents. The purpose of this reponse is to suggest that, for those families where it is a financial option and where the mother has the desire to do so, there are many more benefits to having her at home than negatives.
