former sub now teaching By Lynn

As a former sub(and a new teacher yeah)I printed up business cards and placed them in the teacher's mailboxes. I gave each teacher two cards. One for school and one for home. I received a lot of calls off of these cards.| I think the key to getting in to sub is making yourself known. Volunteering is a great way. Teachers love to have someone that will come and run off their copies for them. I know that I love my volunteers. I spent countless hours volunteering in the school that I know teach in. Once the teachers saw that I was willing to help out anywhere (even their classroom) they started calling. | | I was so busy that I had to refer some of my calls to other subs. I can tell you all that once the principal, teachers and SECRETARY (that is usually the best person of all to make friends with) know that you will do anything they will recommend you for everyone. I not only filled in for teachers but also for aides and the custodian. I hated that job but they knew I would do anything. I volunteered in the library during Dr. Seuss week in March for two years and dressed up as the Cat in the Hat. I read to over 300 students each week during this time. They knew that if I would dress as the Cat I would do anything. I know teach in the same school I did my subing in and I love it. The teachers already know me, I know the students and I know the routine for the school. I haven't had to use a sub yet but I already know who I will call. Another sub that has worked there for years and is reliable. She has good classroom control. Best of luck to you all!!
