Correct words read per minute

According to Timothy Rasinski ("The Fluent Reader" Scholastic), a second grader who is on grade level should be reading (53) words correctly in one minute at the beginning of the second grade, (78) by mid year, and (94) by the end of the year. I have put the numbers in parentheses because I don't have the book with me right now, and I may be 1-2 off for each time period, but no more than that. The book I mentioned is fabulous in that it has activity upon activity to use to improve reading speed and fluency. I have used MANY of them, and they do really work!!
