Portfolios
By Ro

Clip to ScrapBook
When I was a student teacher we spent hours working on our portfolios. Here in New York everyone wants to see your portfolio. I've gone to out of state job fairs and was never asked to show it (I've interviewed to teach
in NC, FL, CA, VA and HI at the out of state job fairs). I think it depends on where you live. I think CC's comment is correct. It shouldn't be too cutsie, stay away from paper with apple borders, etc. My college told us your portfolio should contain

A statement of your educational philosophy
your resume
your college transcripts
Documentation regarding special training (such

as reading recovery)
Certification documents
results of your certification tests
student teaching evalutations
letters of recommendation
lesson plans
photos of any special projects you have completed as a student teacher/teacher
samples of children's work (I photographed and photocopied samples without the child's name showing)
Any letters you have received from parents about your teaching can also be included
Good luck.
