I'm not sure what grade you teach, but this seems like a maturity issue, or in other words lack there of! This student seems immature to me. Those questions really do make people feel uncomfortable! One of things I say throughout
the year is not to ask those questions or discuss things around those lines at school. If I hear it, I make them spend recess inside with me. I know that probably sounds a little overboard, but it does put people on the spot, it makes people uncomfortable, and it can hurt feelings. I mean we, as teachers, pretty much don't let it bother us, but when they are refering to students
(who's your BEST friend? etc.) it can really hurt there feelings. Good luck with this student. I hope things work out. Maybe before you do this again, you can add a rule about the types of questions they ask.
