Fidgety Kids
By Kathy

Clip to ScrapBook
I truly believe some kids are just fidgety! Some people just do better with something in their hands. The important thing is that they don't distract themselves or others. Then it becomes a "toy"--even if it is a pencil!

What I'm a stickler for is having eye contact. If they're eyes aren't on me when I'm giving directions, it's hard for me to know they are listening.

After reading your post, I'm glad I have a sanguine principal who is very supportive and understands the restlesness of some of the kids in my class. (One of the advantages of a small school, I guess.)

Even though I completely

agree with your perception of the evaluation, the post that said this is your principal is correct. This is a situation you will have to learn to live with--at least as long as this principal is here.

One thing that I do that helps is to work in "learning breaks" and never ask the students to use attentive listening for a long period of time. Good luck!
