Staying in the profession
By Robin

Clip to ScrapBook
I have been teaching since 1976. I stay in the profession despite the negatives you mentioned above, because I enjoy the children. Each year does bring new challenges, but it's always different, and I challenge myself to
continue to be innovative and creative in solving the problems I can. What's important for me is having a life outside of school. I think there are always too many hours to work, and if you let it, the job will consume you. What's scary to me now is the political climate. Between No Child Left Behind and state laws cutting funding, we are in a lot of trouble. I'd say if you are even thinking
of being a media specialist, go for the MLS. It never hurts to be qualified to do something else, and you could always work in education if you chose. It's definitely a stressful job, and it's getting more stressful all the time.
