I think that you are all being misled. I work at a school with a Reading First grant. It is nothing like that. We did have to adopt an accepted basil program. There are certain parts of the program that we cannot teach in the 90 minutes. Spelling and writing instruction are not allowed during the 90min. We do write in response to literature and answering comprehension questions. Kids can go the bathroom. Children are taught at their ability levels, therefore, no one is on the same page. If you want more specifics on how we run our programs you can email me. I honestly think your principal and reading coach (I hope you have one) need to do their research. Maybe the requirements are different by state, I don't know. The way your school is operating does not seem in the best interest of student learning.This has been stressful for our school but we are getting more comfortable with the new curriculum and new schedules and I am seeing improvements in the kids - which in most important.
