Subtracting across zeroes
By Teachie Poo

Clip to ScrapBook
What we did -- we did a few on the board. We noticed that, Voila! there were all 9's in the middle (from the regrouping!) when we subtract across zeroes.

So, in subtracting 50,000-21,345, We put 9's over the middle 0's; 4 over the 5 and the last 0 gets the ten added to it. (or whatever digit is in the ones place).

Anytime we have numbers with zeroes, we know this pattern and don't even have to worry about it. My kids LOVE subtracting across zeroes now.
