It is not a matter of being perfect
By Don't Agree

Clip to ScrapBook
It is not a matter of being perfect. No one is perfect, but we all are expected to do the job that we were hired to do. This is your business because it is your kids. They are missing out on the much needed Arts and Technology!
There are Art/Music/Tech teachers out there that would LOVE to have her job (and actually do the job!!!!) There are so many schools that are getting these programs cut. We are teachers and have to stand up for what we believe in. In our society so many think that our job is so easy! They haven't a clue. I am a reg. classroom teacher and I do see how hard our Art, Music, and
Tech teachers work! If we want to continue to keep these special classes, then we have to stand up for what we believe and let our voices be heard! If someone is not doing their job (and keeping the job from someone else AND getting paid for it) then we can't turn the other way and ignore it. You DO have a part in this because it is effecting YOUR students!

My best friend (who is also a teacher at a different school), had an experience like this once. When she dropped off her kids one day, she stated "We will be doing "so-n-so" next week and I want them to do this particular art project". She told her what she wanted done and the Art teacher did it. At my school, we had an Art teacher one year (he only lasted one year and was let go). Everyday (EVERYDAY!!!) that they had Art, they came back with a sheet of computer paper where they had free draw time. This was with every class in every grade. When it came time for the Spring Art Show, he had NOTHING to put up two weeks before the show. He had to bust butt to get something done. He was out the door at the end of school, looking for another job.

Now I am not as braisen as my friend, but I would say something like the first poster and tell her you want to extend her lesson in your classroom. Ask if there is a time for you two to meet to discuss and go over her plans. Maybe that will work.

Anyway, this IS your business and needs to be fixed!

Good luck and let us know how it goes and what you decide to do!
