About Confidentiality...
By Kristen

Clip to ScrapBook
I think sometimes the "law" takes some issues too far. My daughter has a severe strawberry allergy. She starts school next year. I will authorize EVERYONE at my school to discuss her allergy, post it in the classroom,
and cafeteria, scream it over the PA system (if I can) I'm all about confidentiality but someone not knowing about an allergy can kill a kid! That's not a risk I'm willing to take... Besides, like another poster said, sometimes it isn't obvious what a certain item contains. EX. My girl is allergic to synthetic strawberry flavors too (like jello, kool-aid, lollipops,) Even she can't catch
it all the time. (can't read yet.)Berry blue koolaid looks safe enough but watch out!! Also, cross-contamination is a problem for these kids. Our school does nothing to protect them except post a notice on the computer "allergic to..." Guess that's because we haven't had a horrible one like those kids who can't be in the same room with peanuts.
