Spelling

I am using a new Spelling Program this year by Rebecca Stinton. So far I really like it. It focuses on a core set a words that 6th graders should learn by the end of the year. The words are recycled through the program. It| teaches all kinds of phonetic rules, how to break words up, and all kinds of great ways for students to become better spellers. It also has a big emphasis on proofreading/editing which is SO important. Already my students like the program because they are exposed to the words that will appear on the test and practice with them throughout the week so that when they are actually tested, | |
they have had EXPERIENCES with them, not just rote memorization at home. The test is a Cloze format in which the students fill in the blanks with the spelling words as you read it to them. Then they ONLY study the words they missed which they will see in later units.I'm piloting it this year but so far I really like it! Good luck! Krista
