reading groups

Clip to ScrapBook
Our school does Walk to Read. We have about 17 small reading groups between the first and second grade classes. We have a large number of title 1 staff who take reading groups and some paras who also have reading groups along
with each classroom teacher. The first and second grades have their reading block together for 90 minutes. This allows for students to be taught at their ability level for the entire reading block. I have ten in my group and one of them is a first grader. We do guided reading, phonics, fluency practice, vocab., comprehension, etc in the 90 minutes. I have a lower group and we read orally
all the time.

I also have center time set up at the end of the day and I meet with a different small group each day to give them extra reading practice. With the low ones I focus on phonics and decoding and with the high ones I focus on fluency and comprehension.
