lined paper
By Laura

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree that it is not developmentally appropriate for begining kindergarteners to use lined paper but when writing is a part of your curriculum you must do it. There is a publishing and writing part in the Ohio standards
for Language Arts. Kindergarten children are introduced to print and should at least use the base line by the end of kindergarten. What it does not say in state standards is what method are we teaching. Most teachers in my building use the ZanerBloser method (some adapt it). We reciently not only had a lined paper paper school wide adoption but also a debate on weather or not to teach
printing. Many schools in our area start with cursive and do not teach printing.

Handwriting is so antiquated anyway. We should be teaching children keyboarding skills instead of judging their handworing.

What do you think?

Laura
