My Dad was a Doctor and my mother worked as well. Money was not an issue for us and like I said my parents paid for most of my college. However, I was expected to contribute financially by working during summers etc. They also wanted me to create a work history so I wouldn't have the problems that are created by not having one - as evidenced by the original post.

I don't think anyone was saying people who don't work don't contribute to their family (?).
