I think there are bad subs just as there are crappy teachers lol. I have seen both good and bad. You get the idea....the teacher with the plan book from 1972, no duty list on the wall, no attendance book, etc..

You all
sound like you care about what goes on just as I now do. Having been on both sides of the fence all I can say is keep "shopping" for the right person for you way of teaching.. Yes, I know where does that time come from?
I used to stay and mark everything (unless told not too), and I also made the kids clean up with a game...ie) who can pick up 7 pieces of paper, etc. All subject areas

were stacked in neat piles with what was done, who needed extra help etc. Then there was the main letter I wrote. It was always a postive note. Now as a teacher now I do want to know who was being naughty etc. I used to seal in an envelope anything overly personal (never know when little so and so's parent may stop to snoop)..

I was on that darn sub list for 12 years! Yes, good subs are kept just for that. I finally told an adm that I was done and he hired me bless his heart.

I know there is no time in a day but when you have a substitute teacher make a point of introducing yourself, offer to help, etc. I can guage a lot from that meeting.
