We have to teach on-grade level and below-grade level for at least 25 minutes of guided reading daily. Four times a week for at least 20 minutes you have to meet with your above-grade level group. In that block of time, I teach phonics, vocabulary, comprehension strategies (basic), read the story, and then on Friday we have a phonics review. That is my basic plan weekly. We do read alouds and the teacher models comprehension strategies in the afternoon, before dismissal.
